“We believe that by giving of our time and resources to integrate students into the daily activities of the agency and expose them to practical work experience, that we are not only raising-the-bar on their theoretical skills, but also conveying the core values and attributes of professional public relations within our industry and business as a whole,” says Craig Clay-Smith, Group Managing Director, The Flagship Group.

Over the past 4 years, seven students have received ‘hands-on’ mentoring and practical experience that has given them an upper hand when applying for jobs after graduating. The Flagship PR internship programme provides valuable opportunities to apply their knowledge in a ‘real world’ busy agency-working environment, while at the same time develop their practical skills. Mentoring in the importance of meeting deadlines, developing the interpersonal skills required to manage the demands of clients through critical thinking and problem solving abilities, adopting sound business ethics, conforming to the agency company policies and procedures and developing crucial working relationships with colleagues are examples of the intern experience while part of the crew at Flagship PR.

“Leading by example is of utmost importance. As a whole, the internship programme succeeds in giving each student a ‘taste’ of the levels of commitment and motivation required to succeed in a fast-paced and competitive business world. We encourage our students to be fully interactive by applying their knowledge and ideas in all tasks and projects assigned to them and in doing so guide them from ‘finding their feet’ to ‘thinking on their feet’ as they learn the ropes on how to weather the storms of the PR world,” concludes Lee Jarrett, Head of Flagship PR.
